Anime, Manga & Creative Writing Workshops for Schools
For more than 10 years now, I’ve had the pleasure of being invited to speak at schools across South East Queensland...teaching students about anime, the creative writing journey, character development, world-building, and all the tips and tricks I’ve picked up along the way.
Fun fact: It was actually a fan of Millennium Exile who first told his teachers about me and kicked this whole thing into gear!
Over the years, I’ve met some incredibly passionate kids, explored some amazing campuses, and worked alongside many dedicated teachers and HODs (Heads of Department).
I feel genuinely blessed to have had the opportunity to share my passion with today’s young minds.
I'm also incredibly grateful to know that my visits have left such a positive impression. ☺️
“For more than ten years, Ty Hanson has been an invaluable partner of Robina State High School, inspiring our students through his engaging anime, manga and creative writing workshops. As the Creative Director and author of the Millennium Exile light novel series, Ty brings authentic industry experience into the classroom, giving students a unique insight into the journey of becoming a published author and creator.
Ty has an exceptional ability to connect with young people. He encourages students to explore their creativity, develop curiosity, and build an appreciation for storytelling, character development and the creative process. By sharing his own experiences and his three light novel series, Ty demonstrates that imagination, perseverance and passion can lead to meaningful creative achievements.
Our students consistently leave Ty’s workshops feeling inspired and motivated to write, draw and create their own stories. His approachable nature and genuine enthusiasm make him an outstanding mentor who encourages students to believe in their own creative potential.
Working alongside Ty over the past decade has been a rewarding collaboration between our school, language faculties and the wider creative community. His ongoing commitment to supporting young people and fostering a love of literature, manga and animation has made a lasting impact on countless students. We highly recommend Ty Hanson to any school or organisation seeking an engaging, knowledgeable and inspiring presenter who empowers the next generation of creators.”
“Ty Hanson has been a valued presenter at our Annual Japanese Culture Day at LORDS from 2017 to 2025.
Each year, Ty delivered two to three anime presentations to groups of approximately 20–30 students. His sessions were consistently engaging, interactive, and age-appropriate. Students were captivated from beginning to end, enthusiastically participating and feeling comfortable asking questions throughout. The presentations not only sparked their interest in Japanese language and culture but also encouraged meaningful discussion and curiosity.
Teachers regularly commented on the outstanding quality of Ty’s presentations and the positive impact they had on students. Ty was always reliable, professional, and easy to work with, maintaining prompt and clear communication in the lead-up to each event.
I would highly recommend Ty to anyone looking for an engaging, knowledgeable, and dependable presenter.”
“Ty’s Anime Workshop has been an inspiring and engaging experience for our students over many years. As a professional author and illustrator, Ty shared valuable insights into character design, storytelling, the publishing journey, and Japanese culture through engaging discussions and active conversations with students.
The workshop supported the Australian Curriculum by fostering creativity, critical thinking, visual literacy, and intercultural understanding. Most importantly, Ty encouraged students to believe in their abilities, persevere, and pursue their passions.
We highly recommend this workshop not only for anime enthusiasts but also for any young students inspired to explore their creative potential.”
